Welding produces intense UV light, flying sparks and harmful fumes. The right protective gear isn't optional — it prevents arc-eye, burns and long-term lung damage. Here's your checklist.
1. Welding helmet
An auto-darkening helmet protects your eyes and face from arc flash and instantly darkens when the arc strikes. Never weld without proper eye protection.

2. Welding gloves
Heat-resistant leather gloves protect hands from sparks, heat and electric shock.
3. Flame-resistant clothing
A leather or fire-retardant jacket and apron shield your skin from sparks and spatter. Avoid synthetic fabrics that melt.
4. Respirator
Welding fumes are toxic. Use a respirator or work with good ventilation/fume extraction.
5. Safety goggles for grinding
When cleaning welds with a grinder, add goggles for flying debris.
Safe habits
- Keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
